International Food and Culture Festival
In February 2020, local community groups joined together in celebrating the diverse cultural cuisine boasted in our borough. Located at The Mercury shopping centre, thousands of local people stopped on the day to taste and buy traditional dishes and and sweets to take home. Joined by HASWA, The BME Forum, HOPEC and the Eurasian Creative Guild a large proportion of world cultures were shared on the day. The event was also supported by RussiaUK.com magazine who also had a stand showcasing Russian culture.
There was also an array of heritage performances, including the award winning Polish children's choir ‘Chor Aura’ harmonising in both English and Polish, including popular classics such as ‘Hallelujah’. ‘Storm V Bollywood’ also kept guests entertained with participatory Banghra dancing in the afternoon - especially by the impromptu dance participation of a couple celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary on that day.
Local businesses were also involved in the fun, with local franchisees’ Subway, BB's Coffee & Muffins, Godfrey's and Pink Salmon also showcasing the mix of international and delicious foods they provide to the town.
