Pocket Worlds – Havering’s first ever pop-up selfie factory

On Sunday 5th September, Romford’s first selfie factory opened its doors at Collier Row Methodist Church.

Visitors enjoyed photographing themselves inside four “Pocket Worlds”. These included the Fantasy Garden, an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ style tea party, a Butterfly Room, and a Room Filled with Clouds. Families and friends attended together to take pictures of each other inside the pocket worlds, making use of props like teacups and angel wings to complete their fantasy photography experience.

The selfie factory is a fairly new concept, with the nearest one being located London’s O2, so it was a real treat to have our very own in Romford.

Pocket Worlds was designed and built by local artist and photographer Hannah Davis, who was commissioned by Havering Changing to bring her ideas into the community, encouraging people to quite literally think outside the box.

Local steering group, the Romford Change Makers, knew they wanted to bring photography-based activities to the area, as this is something that appeals to a lot of people and Collier Row has so many wonderful outdoor spaces it seemed the ideal place to start.

And if set building is something you want to try, Hannah is offering ‘Creating Worlds’ workshops to take you through the creative process, from initial ideas to building a collective set with other participants and capturing your work on camera.
